Florence Sightseeing

Florence is a city that can be covered on foot, but walking all day is not easy on the feet so choose the 3 star Hotel Goldoni which, due to our great central location, will mean that all your leg work and energy can be devoted to sightseeing and exploring the incredible city of Florence rather than getting from the hotel to the centre and back!

Florence Sightseeing

All of the following places are right on the doorstep of the Hotel Goldoni and can easily be visited on foot, making the Hotel Goldoni excellent for sightseeing and discovering the Renaissance city of Florence:

Santa Croce church, Florence Ponte Vecchio bridge, Florence Overview of Florence

The Oltrano, the oldest and most characteristic area of Florence with its cobbled streets and artisan shops, can be reached from the Hotel Goldoni by simply crossing the nearest bridge. The main things to see are the Pitti Palace and the Boboli Gardens, but the atmospheric Santo Spirito square has a daily market, and most weekends an antique, flower or food market selling locally grown and made products. Also not to be missed is a visit to the Brancacci Chapel in the Santa Maria del Carmine church to see Masaccio’s frescoes.

Leaving the Hotel Goldoni and walking along the river you will pass the romantic Santa Trinita bridge from which the Via Tornabouni with its Gucci and Prada shops starts. The next bridge along, still very close to the Hotel Goldoni, is the Ponte Vecchio, and just a few steps further the world famous Uffizi Gallery with a wonderful café terrace.

The Santa Maria Novella church is also well worth a visit in order to see ‘The Trinity’; and whilst wandering through the cloister area you will be met by tantalizing smells of perfume which is produced in the oldest pharmacy in Florence on Via della Scala. Walking in the direction of the Accademia, the museum where you will find the original Michelangelo’s David, you will walk through the daily tourist market in San Lorenzo and in Piazza San Marco, the monastery with its rose gardens and frescoes by Fra Angelico.
